 Autobiography

Hard work is what this great country was built and founded on centuries ago. Our forefathers and mothers got all their exercise from their daily lives for survival. This led to a healthier life style. In today’s society with the advancement of technology many people have forgot that it is hard work to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Being raised in a military family and living in a military community physical fitness has always been part of my entire life. There was not a day that I didn’t see soldiers along with my father running somewhere on Ft. Rucker or exercising in other ways. Exercise became part of my everyday lifestyle.

From the young age of six I started swimming competitively and was coached by a former Chinese Olympic swim Coach. Coach John or Jin Ri Jiang was a very stern coach who instilled his hard work ethics in me at a young age. It was during this time that I realized what it takes to become successful in my endeavors.

All my hard work at a young age led me to become a very versatile athlete. While growing up I had two sisters that were three and fours years older than me. They also were great athletes due to swimming under Coach John. While they were in high school they swam, ran cross country and track. It was during this time while I was in middle school that their coach asked if I ran with them and wondered if I would be interested in running on the high school team, because they needed one more member. Needless to say, I attended the high school state cross country meet in Oakville where Jesse Owens is memorialized. During my high school career I went to state in cross country, track, swimming, football and basketball.

In my senior year at Carroll High School I was selected to attend the high school All-American game in Shreveport, Louisiana in football. The following year I played for Troy University as a defensive end. It was at this time that I realized my aerobic physical conditioning had changed due to the emphasis on size and strength. I no longer was the athlete that could run long distance or swim because of my size. This led me to pursue a degree in physical and health education as I then realize that I would not play football at the next level.

The farther I got in my core classes the more I realized that I wanted to share my experiences with our youth. That led me to apply for a summer job at the Ozark’s Boys and Girls club. That summer I was responsible for children from the ages of 5-18. My job was to monitor, supervise, ensure safety and promote a healthy lifestyle. This job allowed me to develop and use a lot of my classroom management skills. The ability to be a positive disciplinarian and enforce club rules while managing children was a great experience that I gained from this opportunity. During this time I would create and implement games and activities for the youth to participate in so that they could reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens in the Ozark Community.

Now that I have taught for multipe years, I know that God has guided me down the right path. One thing that has helped me in my journey to becoming a teacher is having two parents who are also educators and have allowed me to reach my fullest potential. They constantly remind me, "That the one who much is given much will be asked." Now Everyday is an opportunity  to share my compassion for promoting the health and well being of all students and staff.
